About
My name is John Carey and I am the photographer, writer, and curator for Fiftyfootshadows.net.
Fiftyfootshadows is the result of well over 10 years of toying around on the internet. What started as a personal sandbox of a website to share photography, design, and experiment with the web turned into a hub for desktop imagery as twistedsun.net, a site which is still preserved as it was left years ago for anyone curious to explore. Around four years ago fiftyfootshadows was created as a fresh start after feeling the twistedsun alias growing stale. Throughout the years it has grown beyond its humble beginnings and had a chance to mature and develop into a well known source for great photography, articles, and digital wallpaper.
Here you will find an ample supply of photographic desktop wallpapers, all shared at high resolutions for big monitors as well as smaller versions for iPhone and iPad users. I share these for people in need of an alternative to the endless supply of overly elaborate designer desktops filling the internet. You will also find reviews, articles on photography and technology, my favorite music suggestions, and stories behind the photographs featured on the site, many of which are from my travels around the world.
So why Fifty Foot Shadows? The name came to me while standing alone as the sun set in the Mojave desert after a long day of driving west across the U.S. I stared in awe as my shadow stretched longer and longer across the desert floor. Fifty felt like a good number at the time and it stuck in my mind for days until I realized it would be the perfect name for my new web venture.
I am a photographer as well as a live audio engineer for a local production company which is all work that I love and keeps me very busy. Everything I choose to do in life I do for the love of it. For the love of life and all the beautiful things within it, light, sound, feeling, and everything all at once.
