About

Fiftfoot shadows is a personal project hosted by myself, John Carey which is primarily used as a front to share photograph based desktop wallpaper imagery that I create for people in need of an alternative to the endless supply of overly elaborate designer desktops filling the internet. I love photography and in my desire to share it with the world I started to offer my photos as desktop imagery nearly five years ago with my previous personal project, twistedsun.net and since then it has grown into what you see today.
Why Fifty Foot Shadows? I love the light of a sunset, especially the last moments of it and the grey that dusk brings just after the sun sets so I thought of this name on a trip to Utah because of the seemingly never ending shadows cast across the desert floor as the sun set. Fifty seemed as good of a number as any. Here, you will also find random stories of travel and life, some more of my photographs outside of the desktops, and music suggestions because I love music as much as I love photography and sharing it something I love to do.
For those interested in such things I am 28 years old and currently living in North Carolina. I am a photographer as well as a live audio engineer for a local production company which is work that I love. I am also part of an electronic music project called a drop in silence which I also love. If you didn’t notice a theme brewing here, I do all of this for the love of it, for the love of life and all the beautiful things within it, light, sound, feeling, and everything all at once.
For those of you who are curious whats in my camera bag these days:
Canon 5d w/ Canon 50mm f/1.2L
Hasselblad 501CM w/ 80mm f/2.8
Voigtlander Bessa R3M rangefinder w/ Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4 SC
Sekonic L-358 light meter
Manfroto 190XPROB tripod w/ ball head
Souldier camera straps (love em)
