This Story
Every image has a story. Sometimes its an epic tale or a near death experience, other times it could be a fleeting moment forgotten until the photograph conjures up memories from the day it was taken. I love this about photography and I love the way it helps me share these tiny moments in my life and travels with everyone reading. I enjoy imagining what kind of story readers may take from any given image or what it may mean to them personally because art can be such a personal experience. A means to fulfill a gap or find comfort in their own curious minds. Personally, I look for things to relate to in any art form, music, painting, photography. The art that always lingers with me connects with me at a level that makes me feel part of what I am looking at or experiencing. I do my best to create images that could give anyone who sees them a small moment of shared experience. Something to add a second of wonder, curiosity, or nostalgia to their day.
So at any rate, this was shot among rocks covered in barnacles and muscles during low tide in the Pacific Ocean. This seagull gave a nice center point to an otherwise simple photo of rocks and ocean and I thought it would make for a great wallpaper. I have been shooting all I can on this journey and hopefully I will continue to find time to share along the way. Tonight we are staying in a cozy hostel on the coast and tomorrow we will venture into San Francisco and the surrounding area to see what we can discover. If anyone is in the area feel free to let me know and we will see if we have time to say hi.

Wonderful momentum….. I do not have words to describe it,.. thanks John,
I was moved to tears.
I love this… it’s funny, when I saw it, the first thing that came to my mind was “This gives me a feeling of home”, then as I kept reading, I see that’s right where you were (N. CA coastline), where my parents live. I think it’s wonderful that you can share your adventures in such a beautiful way, and in this case the photo captures both journey and a feeling of home for me. Your photos do indeed give me that shared experience and connection that gives me a feeling of hope. Thank you. :)
Nice perspective on the rockpool there, you must have been very low to get that. Hope you didn’t get the 5D wet!
Not sure if the gull would be better if it were in focus, different take on things but that would alter the feel of the image and maybe it shouldn’t be.
Can I have it as a wallpaper?
Thanks everyone!
Neil, I have other shots of this and a couple had the bird in focus but felt too obvious somehow. This gave the rocks and water the overall focus in the scene and left the burd as a simple center pout slightly outside of the main focus. I dunno, just felt right as well ;)
Zip, the desktop size wallpaper link is right there on the last paragraph of text. Any post in the desktop section will have a link like that.
Love this perspective!
I really like this one,so that i can focus on the center^_^!
Thanks a lot!
Very nice, thx for sharing
