About
My name is John Carey and I am the photographer, writer, and curator of Fiftyfootshadows.net.
Fifty Foot Shadows is the result of over 15 20 years of toying around on the internet. What started as a personal sandbox to share photography, design, and experiment with the web turned into a hub for desktop imagery as twistedsun.net, a site which is still preserved as it was left years ago for any curious minds. Around six years ago Fifty Foot Shadows was created as a fresh start after feeling the twistedsun alias growing stale.
I have chosen to share much of my photographic output as desktop wallpapers which, in turn, has created a viral gallery using device screens all around the world as the gallery walls. You will also find occasional reviews, articles on photography and technology, my favorite music suggestions, and stories behind the photographs featured on the site.
So why Fifty Foot Shadows? The name came to me while standing alone as the sun set in the Mojave desert after a long day of driving west across the U.S.. I stared in awe as my shadow stretched longer and longer across the desert floor. Fifty felt like a good number at the time and it stuck in my mind for days until I realized it would be the perfect name for my new web venture.
